The main objective of organizing this year’s 19th World Pencak Silat Championship 2022 is mainly to gather all the Pencak Silat practitioners across the globe by competitively competing in this such major tournament while proudly representing their own country. I would also like to convey a heartiest congratulation to the Malaysia Silat Federation (PESAKA) and the entire team of the “Organizing Committee” for accepting the offer and organizing this championship.
Having it in this part of Melaka also, will definitely boost up the spirit Melaka is a great new choice of destination in terms of the “Sport’s Eco-Tourism”. I was also informed that the Melaka State Government had given a full co-operation in welcoming all of us, as this is another great platform in promoting the sport of Pencak Silat to the world. Hopefully PESAKA, along with the Melaka State Government will set an example to all other Pencak Silat Associations and Federations in inspiring them to have more and stronger cooperations in organizing more sporting Pencak Silat events.
Lastly I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of the participants and teams. The camaraderie and relationship, as well as collaborations you formed will help to bond the fraternity of Pencak Silat all across the world. Greetings from the Malaysia Silat Federation (PESAKA) and “Selamat datang” to Melaka, Malaysia. We are very pleased to have you all as our distinguished guests in making the 19th WORLD PENCAK SILAT CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 an unforgettable journey.
As we thanked the previous host – Singapore which they had set the bar very high in terms of the overall preparations, here in Melaka, at our very best in making sure that this time around, it’ll be on it’s own heights and standards.
This 19th World Pencak Silat Championship 2022, will indefinitely leaves a world-class experience to all sports fans locally and international. At the same time, embodying the spirit of Pencak Silat troughout the community.
We, at PESAKA always understand the needs associated with this idea and are working tirelessly to ensure that every detail is attended to and the best is made available. In order to assist you in your planning and preparation, we have prepared this Technical Handbook for each countries which contains useful information for your guidance.

Practicing Pencak Silat is definitely a great national pride. Through honor and solidarity with each of its members who is always - dignified, united, healthy and morally disciplined. Pencak Silat also can be diversified into two separate criterias such as the “Cultural Arts & Heritage, and the “Sports of Pencak Silat”.
Pencak Silat as the Cultural Arts & Heritage
The art of Pencak Silat exists, inherited and is developed with a wide variety of movements, techniques, elements and originality in accordance of each individual identity.
Pencak Silat as a Sport
Pencak Silat as a Sports means that this Malay martial art is also accepted as a form of sporting activities that are used for competition. This type of sport has its own system and practice in accordance with certain requirements and regulations that have been set and standardized for the purpose of competition. This sport was also created to meet the criteria and concept of sports so that its participation is more comprehensive regardless of race, gender, religion, believes and nationality.
Each competition also applies an “Organizational Structure” comprising of the “Coaching”, the “Technical Staff” and the “Competition Rules” same as other type of sports.
Having an official winner for each competition or tournament.
Malaysia is no exception to the international stage where this Malay traditional form of martial art have begun to participate and compete in the form of High Performance Sports leading to National medals. I.e: The SEA Games, ASIAN Games and also World Championships.

Pencak Silat is a form of a traditional martial art believed that has been originated from the Malay Archipelago and Indonesian’s heritage. It translates to “Fighting with a wide variety and techniques of self-defense”.
Pencak Silat has four main components – The Mental Spirit, Arts and Culture, The Self-Defense and Sport’s itself.
During competitions, it is practiced entirely for fitness, aesthetics and with the martial art’s disciplines. The varieties that is shown and expressed during these competitions encapsulates it uniqueness.
While in the sports context, Pencak Silat is categorized into two categories - Match and Artistic. In recent years, Pencak Silat and it’s culture has spreaded to many foreign countries outside South East Asia including Holland, Germany, Italy, South Africa, France, Japan,and others. The sport’s has since influenced many and it is also capable of uniting people from all walks of life.
The primary objective of organizing this championship is mainly, to gather all the Pencak Silat practitioners from all around the globe and to compete competitively by representing their own country. The very first world (International) Pencak Silat championship was held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1982.
Subsequently the championship was hosted by other nation such as - Holland,Indonesia, Austria, Thailand, Singapore and now, back again to Malaysia for the 5th times.
